However, there are other cards that are of similar quality made by other entities that have adapted the name, commonly referred as 1:1 clones. The original Revolution for DS card is no longer available in stores, although it can be bought online. The original R4 cards use a microSD (<=2GB) card for its firmware and games, and does not support SDHC microSD cards. Since the 3DS's secure boot signature validation has been broken, this provides a useful means of installing custom firmware on a 3DS. Some of these cartridges can also store a 3DS boot image a 3DS can in turn be made to boot from the cartridge by way of an undocumented button combination recognized by the system's bootloader. The R4 flashcard's original developer stopped producing the R4 Card that plays ROMs and homebrew for the Nintendo DS, however, there are a new line of R4 clones that have taken its place, notably the R4 3DS, R4 Gold, R4 DSi and R4 NES, which are used to play ROMs and homebrew from various Nintendo platforms such as the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DSi XL and Nintendo Entertainment System. This allows the user to run homebrew applications, to store multiple games on a single memory card, and to play games that have been backed up by the user. It allows ROMs and homebrew to be booted on the Nintendo DS handheld system from a microSD card.
R4 revolution for ds firmware series#
The R4 (also known as Revolution for DS) is a series of flash cartridges for the Nintendo DS handheld system. I will check on we'll see.The R4i Gold 3DS, a later clone of the original R4 Card. That would be a waste and shame of money and pleasure though. It is an old thread so I am not sure if that is still the case. It says somewhere the R4 does not support SDHC cards (the 4GB Scandisk is a SDHC card). Just read on on the forum and found this thread Is there anyone who got a 4Gig Card working on a R4? It seems to me the R4 is not compatible with the 4Gig Scandisk MicroSD.Īnyone any ideas or suggestions? Wanted to take a load of games on vacation.upgrading from 1 to 4 Gig. I have tried all the suggestions above (and elsewhere) but nothing works. The 1Gig Kingston MicroSD no problem (using this for over a year already) and the new 4Gig Scandisk MicroSD only shows the 'loading' screen. In fact I have 2 R4 cards to try out and they both give the same result. This sucks as i always lose my saved games.Ĭlick to expand.Hi there, I am having the same problem AND since I do have 2 different microSD cards I can say my (and probably this) problem has nothing to do with the R4 cartridge!
R4 revolution for ds firmware Pc#
The only way to slove this is to format the micro card as its unreadable when i connect it to the pc again. I put the files on the micro card in the right order and have also made a extra folder to put the games in called Games, but still get the same black screen after a while after starting one of the new roms. This has happend a couple of times now and ive come to understand that it isnt some rom in particular as the problem occurs on different roms randomly that might have worked previously. I then tried to play a new game and while it was loading, it got stuck (black screen) so i chose to reset the ds.Īfter resetting, it gets stuck at the start when it has the black screen with the white loading letters. I got the r4 a week ago, put like 6 games in it and didnt have a problem with the first 2-3 games. Hey guys, first of all ive searched the forum but i havent quite found exactly the same error im getting so here goes:
